Grand-maman’s Bread Pudding
This is a family recipe from my hubby’s grand-maman Pariseau. She always serves this dessert when we visit and boy oh boy, is it ridiculously good. If you like maple syrup, you’re going to love this. I’m making this for my family on Christmas day and wanted to test out the recipe first. I’m trying to keep my sampling to a few bites, but it’s just sooooo good. This is the type of dessert that requires loose pants, a post dessert nap and a 5 mile walk the next day.
In the bottom of a buttered oven safe casserole dish, combine:
2 cups of brown sugar
1 cup 35% whipping cream
2 tbsp butter
3/4 cup maple syrup
In a separate mixing bowl combine:
1 loaf of country style bread (sliced and buttered and then cut into cubes)
4 cups of milk (2 cups carnation milk, 2 cups regular milk)
4 eggs beaten
1/4 cup maple syrup
Leave for 15 minutes until the milk mixture is absorbed into the bread. Pour over the sugar mixture – do not mix.
Combine and pour over top:
2 eggs beaten
2 tbsp cream
Bake (centre rack) at 350 for 50 minutes to an hour or until golden and a knife comes out fairly clean. Enjoy!

sounds very lovely + comforting

It looks great!! Just like Grand-Maman! How did it taste? Did Mark approve?
Mark definitely approved! Followed Grand-maman’s recipe exactly and it turned out just like hers. So yummy!
Yum! This looks and sounds so good. It seems that everyone always makes chocolatey bread pudding…your grandmother’s maple-flavored one sounds so much better.
Oooh, fantastic! Bread pudding is one of the best cold-weather desserts, and I love the layer of maple-brown sugar sauce at the bottom. Thanks for visiting my blog!
this is so much more decadent than the bread pudding with which i’m familiar. thanks for sharing a family gem–it’s clearly a keeper!
